Possible problems and solutions are:-

  • Bandsaw blade comes off drive & idler wheel, angle of wheel orientation needs re setting, wrong length of bandsaw blade, Blade tension system not correctly tightened or faulty
  • Wobbly Bandsaw drive & idler wheels,  bearings need replacing
  • Cut seems not to be truly vertical, loose or worn carbide bandsaw blade guides, tighten them or replace, or its loose drive/idler wheels
  • None or Low pressure flood coolant – coolant pump impeller is damaged or coolant tank full of cutting chips, replace impeller, clean coolant tank, purchase a replacement coolant pump
  • Chip brush worn or missing, replace it

Horizontal Bandsaw Service Requirements:

At the beginning of any work shift, inspect the metal cutting horizontal bandsaw, a visual inspection of all areas will allow you to notice and address small issues before they become significant problems

It is important to immediately investigate poor cut quality, inaccurate cut length pieces, strange noises, vibrations,
or something that doesn’t look right. The quicker problems are detected and corrected, can often avoid an expensive fix.

Keeping the metal cutting horizontal bandsaw productive can be accomplished by performing these simple planned maintenance tasks:-


  • Check blade tension system
  • Check dive wheels for signs of looseness /wobble
  • Clean out chips from coolant tank

Hydraulic Circuits

  • Clean Hydraulic oil is the key to a healthy hydraulic system, keeping the oil clean and filling the reservoir to capacity
  • Every 1000 hours check all oil levels –filter the hydraulic oil
  • Every 3000 change the hydraulic oil and change filters
  • Every 2000 hours grease all nipples
  • Every 3000 hours check carbon wear guides, replace if worn
  • Check all external cables and switches fittings for damage
  • Check coolant impeller pump for impeller wear,replace if worn
  • Clean out coolant tank – re fill with new coolant

    Electrical Systems
  • Check all external cables and switches for damage
    Emergency stop buttons, check the dual circuit relays,
    look for welding of contactors
  • Check all terminal strip connections, relays, look for damage to terminal boxes on motors
  • Re seat all printed circuit boards and check for physical damage, cracked solder points, burned parts, etc
  • Check all voltages coming from power supplies and transformers
  • Check control panel cooling fans are operational
  • Clean control cabinet to remove dust particles
